Abbottabad Public School was established in April 1961 as the first residential public school in West Pakistan under the guidance of its founder Principal, M.A. Rehman. Over time, it attracted students from abroad and quickly gained a reputation for quality education, producing leaders for the Armed Forces, Civil Services, and professional fields. Initially under the Central Government, its control was later transferred to an autonomous Board of Governors and then to the Government of NWFP (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) in 1971. APS alumni include notable figures such as former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Chief Justice (R) Nasir-ul-Mulk, and several federal and provincial leaders.
